The e-book space got a lot more exciting today with the announcement that Samsung is bringing their own electronic reader to market. The Papyrus has a touchscreen and stylus to be used with not only the reader, but also with a slew of applications that Samsung is shipping on the device.
Users who want more from their e-book reader will no doubt appreciate the scheduler, memo pad, calendar, contact list, world clock and calculator apps that round out the Papyrus. The device is A5 sized, making it a lot smaller than the Kindle 2, and is expected to sell for $299.
It is reported the Papyrus has 512 MB of memory and lacks both an SD card and wireless broadband, so that might be a problem for some. There’s also no word of what content formats the device will support. Papyrus will be released in Korea first, but is expected to spread to the U.K. and U.S. in the future.
