For the second time in a year, China has blocked Google’s YouTube service, although Chinese authorities won’t give any details as to why. “Many people have a false impression that the Chinese government fears the Internet. In fact, it is just the opposite,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters. The spokesman said he didn’t know that the service was being blocked. China most recently restricted access to YouTube a year ago, when videos of clashes between police and protesters in Tibet surfaced on the site. According to various reports, a video showing Chinese police beating Tibetans was posted by a Tibetan exile group last week. China requires online video broadcasters to report and delete videos that hurt the country
