Industry Moves: Sony Ericsson North American Head Leaves; Thumbplay Hires New VP Of Product

imageSony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson: Najmi Jarwala, President of Sony Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) USA and Head of Region North America, comprising of the U.S. and Canada, is leaving the company at the end of the month to pursue other career opportunities, the company said today. No successor has been named yet, however, Anders Runevad, EVP of Sony Ericsson and Head of Global Sales and Marketing, will take on the added responsibilities of President of Sony Ericsson USA and Head of Region North America in the interim. Jarwala’s departure comes at a time when the company is struggling to maintain its market share and record a profit. Release.

Thumbplay: Mobile entertainment company Thumbplay has appointed Thomas Tracey as VP of product. He will be in charge of developing and introducing new products in area’s such as MP3s and videos, the company said. Prior to Thumbplay, Tracey worked at Vindigo, where he managed mobile applications including MapQuest Mobile, The New York Times (NYSE: NYT), NBC Weather and Plaxo as director of product development. Although it is unclear if Tracey is replacing anyone directly, he is likely filling a hole left by a number of executives who have left recently.
