Cheap, Pocketable MID Runs Linux

OK, SmartQ: how long have you been hiding this Mobile Internet Device from Engadget? The SmartQ 5 is all touch-screen with 4.3-inches of 800×480 resolution to tap. Although I’m more enamored by higher resolutions than this, it’s not bad for a handheld device. It could be a chore for viewing web pages though, so I suspect ample usage of the zoom function would be used in the browser. Hey, at $132 for an ARM-based MID running Linux with a usable browser, I’d be willing to gamble if I could get one from China.

There isn’t much info available in terms of specifications but you can clearly see an SD card slot cover on the bottom of the device in the pic that Engadget ran. I’d love to know a little more about it, although I don’t expect much at this price level. I’d think that it has to offer WiFi at a bare minimum for connectivity, but after that, your guess is as good as mine. There might be some hints in this translated product page / press release, but we’re probably better off having someone that can read native Chinese to help us out there. As soon as we open the China branch of jkOnTheRun, we’ll revisit this one!
