With chairman Nripendra Misra’s tenure ending on 22 March, the race for the top job at India’s telecom and broadcast regulator is hotting up. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is among the most important and powerful independent regulators in the country, and the chairman’s job, naturally coveted. While a list of 13 eligible candidates has been finalized, DNA reports that consumer affairs secretary Yashwant Bhave and former Power secretary Anil Razdan are leading the race. But the committee can also pick a candidate from outside the list so we might eventually see a dark horse emerging victorious. Or even a high profile bureaucrat such as Telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, who is not on the list of applicants.
