The income tax department today attached theatre chain Pyramid Saimira’s bank accounts totalling more than Rs 240 crore for alleged non-payment of tax but the company said it will challenge the department’s decision.
The tax department in Chennai has attached the bank accounts of Pyramid Saimira as the company had allegedly not paid the complete self-assessment tax, sources said.
Pyramid Saimira denied that it has any tax liability. Sources in the company said Pyramid Saimira would file a case against the income tax department in Chennai High court on Monday.
“As far as PSTL (Pyramid Saimira Theatres Limited) is concerned, as of now we have no tax dues. We have filed a revised return wherein we have claimed a refund. There is no tax demand on us based on completed assessment,” the company CMD P S Saminathan told PTI.
