Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) sent out invitations to the media today, asking them to join the company at invitation-only event “to learn about the new SDK and get a sneak peek at the iPhone OS 3.0 software.”
It’s unclear exactly what Apple will announce, but if it has do with software, updates to the App Store is the likely bet. With competition heating up, it would be smart for Apple to change some of its pricing policies to encourage selling applications at various price points, or add the ability to sell subscriptions, rather than just a one-time fee. It could also add social features, such as the ability for users to see what your friends are buying (similar to what Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has announced with the Ovi Store). Stay tuned for more information. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at 10 a.m.
