Palm Treo Pro Hits Sprint on March 15

palm-treo-proI don’t think many folks will be surprised by the news, but it’s now official: Sprint (s S) gains the Palm (s PALM) Treo Pro mid-month. $199 is the final price with a $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate, plus a two-year plan. The Treo Pro is a 3G Windows Mobile 6.1 handset that I don’t expect will see WinMo 6.5; That upgrade is reserved for new handsets later this year, with the exception of HTC’s recently announced devices. Still interested? Read on for specs then:

  • 320×320 touchscreen display
  • Qualcomm Dual-Core MSM7501A CPU at 528MHz
  • 802.11b/g with dedicated WiFi button
  • Integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR
  • 512MB storage (300MB available), 128MB of ROM
  • microSDHC slot supporting up to 32GB
  • 2.0MP camera
  • 1500mAh battery for up to 5 hours talk time
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • MicroUSB for charging, syncing

I think Sprint would have done well to get this device out the door last year. At this point, it’s going to compete with the Palm Pre and we now know from MWC that it’s not likely this device will ever see an operating system upgrade. Still, they’re offering a solid-looking device for Windows Mobile fans that enjoy Sprint’s network.

Oh goody, another WInMo 6.1 device that won’t work with MS Reader for Pocket PC.

The part that really frosts my Pop Tart with MS is not only have they basically abandoned MS Reader but when I needed another activation for my HTC Fuze they gave it to me.

All I can ask is “Why? It doesn’t !@#$ work!” They had to manually approve me for another activation since I’d already used my automatic extra the same day to get the Vaio P setup. I wrote in “Upgrade Toshiba e805 to HTC Fuze” and they still gave it to me (two days later).
