Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is working with Mobile-XL to embed the XLBrowser in some handsets that will ship to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania starting as early as March. The XLBrowser lets users search for useful information, such as news, currency conversion, finance information, and even play games. It’s not what you think in terms of browsers today. Because it is intended to be used in areas, where there is no internet access, it uses SMS to send data. It’s seen as a way of bridging the digital divide, as well as a way to make a few bucks.
