Doesn’t Come With Music: The Wait Continues For Nokia’s Service To Arrive In The U.S.

imageSorry to put an end to all the excitement, but it is very unlikely that Nokia’s Comes With Music service will launch in the U.S. this month. CNET put it together in a report today. It all started when The Nokia Blog — which is not an official company site — reported that the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) 5800, also dubbed “The Tube,” or the XpressMusic phone, was coming to the U.S. as early as Feb. 26. But the strange thing about this phone, which has been designed to play music, is that typically when it first launches it does not come with Nokia’s unlimited music downloading service. Comes With Music is different than Nokia’s music stores, which sell individual songs, and we reported today are now available in Austria and Switzerland.

As for the XpressMusic phone, back when it first hit the UK market earlier this year, it was simply marketed as one of the the first Nokia touchscreen devices. It did not come with Comes With Music. And, ironically, it was CNET’s Crave blog that reported today that users in Singapore will be the first in the world to get a Comes With Music-enabled 5800 XpressMusic. As further evidence, The Nokia Blog said the phone will cost $399 without a carrier subsidy when it launches in the US That’s pretty much the same price as when it launched in the UK for 279 euros without subsidy and without taxes (and without Comes With Music).
