Europeans are on pace to use twice as much mobile data as people in the U.S. by 2013, according to Cisco (NSDQ: CSCO), which has gathered information from a number of sources and made some predictions. Last year, Cisco said Europeans with “the most primitive data-capable handsets, without a 3G connection” used 800KB of data a month compared with 400KB in the U.S…Cisco expects that to grow to 18MB a month for Europeans by 2013, and half that in the U.S. For those with the fastest smartphones (3.5G, 3G+, HSPA) usage last year was 73MB a month and expected to grow to 1.18GB a month in Europe — and in the U.S., it’s expected to grow from 32MB a month to 739MB a month in 2013. When consumers are using laptop cards, Cisco predicts that by 2013, subscribers are likely to consume almost 5GB a month in Europe, and 4.3GB a month in the U.S., up from an average of 630MB and 528MB last year. The biggest driver will be mobile video services, which will account for 64 percent of all mobile traffic by 2013. Cisco said the traffic will mostly be made up by people watching video clips rather than making video calls.
