Room at Luxor Hotel. No this is not us.
I’m sitting on the comfy couch in my hotel room in Vegas so I have time to share some thoughts about the trip and general stuff. We are staying at the Luxor Hotel where we have been visiting routinely for 11 years. They always treat us well and they regularly express their appreciation for our loyal patronage.
They’ve put us in a nice suite-type room that has lots of amenities including a 42-inch flat-screen TV on the wall. Internet connectivity is an outrageous $15/ day but given the solid performance of the Verizon EVDO network I don’t bother. The connectivity has been solid and sharing the 3G connection has been a breeze.
This was important because my wife brought the HP Mini 2140 netbook to keep up with email and her blogging. I have been anxious to get her impressions as a non-power user. She loves it so far, and while she wouldn’t want such a small notebook for her only computer, she finds it a perfect size for traveling. The screen resolution is sufficient for her web work, and she loves the keyboard, which is not surprising. Interestingly, she loves how the extended battery props up the back of the unit, which provides a more comfortable typing angle. She finds the 2140 to be fast enough and she’s appreciated how failsafe the connection sharing has been.
This is the first exposure she has with Windows 7 and she seems to like it. She uses Vista on her home notebook and she says Windows 7 is better organized but similar enough to be intuitive. I’ll bet that’s just what Microsoft wants to hear.
I haven’t had a chance to play with the HP Mini 1000 MI that just arrived prior to our departure for Vegas. I am looking forward to giving that Linux system with the HP shell a spin and I also want to get my wife’s impressions of it too. I am curious how the “strange” environment of the Mini MI will be received by someone used to Windows.
Well that’s it for now. I’m going to try to get a late edition of Mobile Tech Manor out tomorrow but no promises. Hey, I’m on vacation. :) Gotta go now as the hotel is treating us to a nice steak dinner for my birthday. This place is sweet.
