VeriSign Sells Off European Mobile Messaging Unit to Austrian Holding Firm

VeriSign (NSDQ: VRSN), which has been in the process of selling off its non-core (including mobile) assets for the last year, has now sold of its European mobile messaging division, Austrian company 3united, to another Austrian business holding company Sinon Invest Holding. Financial details were not released. 3United was bought by VRSN in Feb 2006 for about 55 million Euros at that time.

The new company under Sinon will now be called mobile messaging solutions (mms), and continue to be based in Vienna, Austria. The company works in the premium SMS, M-commerce and mobile content solutions sector and has about 100 employees, it says. More details in release.

This comes after VeriSign sold off its 49 percent share in Jamba/Jamster to News Corp (NYSE: NWS). for about $200 million in October last year. It is now focusing on Internet infrastructure services like domain name services and security, especially after
