Local online media and ad firm Marchex is shedding 15 jobs — about 4 percent of it workforce — as it completes a company-wide reorg. The Seattle company said that it had been working to smooth out redundancies stemming from acquisitions over the past few years. After striking a number of M&As in 2006 and 2007, though, the company had been fairly quiet on the deals front the past several months. Until late last year, the local ad market was bucking the trend in slowing online ad growth, but the global financial meltdown effectively tamped down that category’s strength, though local paid search was still expected to grow by healthy double digits.
Among the shuffling of duties and titles at the top, co-founder Peter Christothoulou will take on the role of COO after serving as chief strategy officer. Also, Matthew Berk, who joined the company in 2006 when it bought his company OpenList, goes from lead search architect to EVP, Product Engineering, which will include running Marchex
