Cisco Moves to Control Energy Consumption

Cisco (s csco) has long been trying to push beyond routers and into the home, as the company needs to continue growing, and is maxing out its Internet infrastructure market share. But like everyone else these days (holy green stimulus package), Cisco has decided to get into the energy efficiency game. Earth2Tech is reporting that Cisco has launched a software upgrade to manage the energy of switches, and plans to eventually use the software to control the energy consumption of PCs and IP phones, as well as lighting, heating and cooling for buildings. That’ll help Cisco’s customers save on their energy bills. Who knew the network could be so handy?
