Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has agreed to acquire bit-side, a professional services and software company that makes mobile applications for the iPhone, Android and other platforms. The Germany-based company has 39 employees, which will join Nokia’s Services unit. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nokia said through the acquisition, it will be able to accelerate its mobile development for Nokia Maps. Nokia VP Michael Halbherr: “Acquiring bit-side enables Nokia to offer consumers the world-leading mobile location applications, such as Maps, along with routing and navigation at an accelerated speed.” The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the current quarter.
