HTC Cruises in 2009 with New Touch Smartphone

New HTC Touch Cruise

New HTC Touch Cruise

Today must be the day for updated devices. First we saw the next MSI Wind netbook go on sale and now HTC has an updated Touch Cruise smartphone to offer. The integrated GPS isn’t exactly new or unique, but the HTC Footprints feature is for this device. With it, you can geo-tag you photos to keep track of exactly where you pressed that shutter button. Footprints also supports audio clips or typed notes to help you remember why the location was super special.

Did I mention this is a capable Windows Mobile 6.1 phone with HTC’s TouchFLO functionality? The display is still QVGA, which is a little disappointing, and the initial version appears headed for shores outside the U.S. based on the 900/2100MHz frequency support. However, HTC says that spring will bring this handset to major global markets, so I’d expect a frequency-friendly version available here before mid-year.

Other updates, if I have my specs of the old and new Cruise right, include a processor boost from 400MHz to 528MHz, double the RAM and ROM (256MB and 512MB) and a battery capacity drop from 1350mAh to 1100mAh. That means you’ll have fewer Footprints than on the old model. ;)
