Sony (NYSE: SNE) Online Entertainment has bought Tucson-based Octopi, developer of the PoxNora multiplayer online (MMO) game, for an undisclosed amount. PoxNora is a MMO/turn-based strategy game hybrid: players launch spells and other attacks using customizable online cards or “runes.” Runes cost between $3 and $10 to upgrade; there’s also a $5 monthly premium subscription that gives players access to better attacks. Sony Online Entertainment has other successful MMOs — the most well-known title being EverQuest; the Octopi development team will form SOE’s new Tucson office, and will work with its Denver studio on new card- and strategy-based games. Release.
