And the HP Magic Giveaway winner is…

hpn80175_blog_300x250_v4_21What a thrilling competition the HP Magic Giveaway has been and we’ve seen over 520 entries for a chance to win this fabulous prize package:

  • HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC
  • HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC
  • HP Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC (with Windows Live)
  • HP Mini 1000 (with XP)
  • HP MediaSmart Connect
  • HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless AIO (printer)
  • HP 564 Photo Value Pak
  • Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition 2007 (Student-Teacher Edition) – 1 DVD with 3 licenses
  • Microsoft Windows Live
  • Corel VideoStudio X
  • Kung Fu Panda (2 widescreen DVDs; 1 widescreen Blu-Ray)

We made it easy to enter with the only requirement being that each contestant would share their best mobile tech tip that provides them magic.  The resultant entries are absolutely chock full of great mobile tech tips and will be saved for the ages to provide good help for all.

There were so many entries that it took us a long time to go through them all, and that we did.  Without further ado the winner of the jkOnTheRun HP Magic Giveaway contest is:

cr0ft (that is c, r, zero, f, t)

cr0ft has 24 hours to send Kevin or I an email (just click our cartoon head on the right) with his/her full name and shipping information for all the loot.  If we do not hear from cr0ft in that time we will announce the runner-up to get all the gear so if you know cr0ft ping them and tell them to get in touch with us.  Congratulations to cr0ft for sharing good advice for everyone!  Here is the winning entry:

Bookmark syncing.

I do that by using the Opera browser (in fact, “use Opera” is a tip itself, but I digress…)

There are (inferior… ;) ) options for Firefox too, like Foxmarks. Bookmarks are invaluable and well sorted ones really allow you to find sites you need both on the go and when stationary, and having them synched and up to date wherever you go is one less worry.

My work laptop, workstation and my home desktop are constantly in sync this way, and with Opera you can even sync the highly useful built-in Opera Notes – and the data goes to the MyOpera servers, where Opera has (to say the least) a vested interest in keeping it safe. It had quite an impact on my browsing habits. Foxmarks and whatever other variants are out there for Firefox probably do a decent job too.

In the unlikely event I win, I definitely intend to share this package around. I have a good friend fighting cancer and facing nasty chemo who will need in-bed entertainment and a way to keep in touch with others via Skype etc to keep her fighting spirit up, so the DV4 laptop would go there. The touchsmart would go to her family/kid for schoolwork and fun along with the printer and all the software. I’d hang on to the HDX and mini laptop myself as I currently just have a desktop at home and a WinMob phone – I could use some laptops to fill the gap.

Good luck to all entrants, Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) and hope you all have a great new year!

Great advice and cr0ft is going to share the wealth too in this time of giving.  Congratulations to cr0ft and thanks to all of those who entered.  We wish everyone could be a winner but thanks for playing anyway.

James Kendrick

OK, a quick update. We have verified the real winner and have things in line to get him the prizes. He is in fact in Finland and a good guy as he is gifting the majority of the prize package to a friend with cancer. Congrats cr0ft, the real one.

To the two impostors who tried to scam us- shame, shame on you. Comments are now closed on this contest.

Brian E

It is very sad that someone would attempt to do such a thing under the pretense of doing good. I hope the real winner steps forward to claim their prize.

As part of the contest you said you’d choose the ten best entries. Any chance you could share those in one post on the site? I’d love to read through all the magic tips but there are just too many of them, and you’ve already read them all for us! If you shared your top ten we really could all be winners of some tech magic :-)

…. hooly #”#¤”!

I’m sure I can come up with something actually eloquent later but… hooly “#¤”#!

What happend James ? Didn’t you get the email yet ? Please don’t say,you won’t give me the prize just because i couldn’t email you earlier. This is my first win ever. Please don’t take that away from me.Thanks.

I was starting to wonder if I was too becoming too bad of a person by thinking exactly that when I read his comments, but I’m glad (and shocked) that I was right. Very, very shameful indeed..

I hope the real cr0ft finds his price in time!

No cyber cafe here my friend as per my knowledge. This is a distant village where i’m staying right now.You may not believe, most part of the village doesn’t even have electricity.I’m actually on a campaign (with some colleagues) to spread the necessity of being literate among a major amount of illeterate village farmers.

@ Nikolas :- Are you the one who use his nickname as “Nik” in some places ? I remember seeing your entries in some other places for this contest.Best of luck to you & to everyone else & a very happy X-Mas & a happy & prosperous new year to everyone.Stay happy, keep smiling & let others smile. :)

James Kendrick

We are certain that the person above is an imposter trying to scam us out of the prize package. Shame on you.

We are waiting contact from the real winner who has the rest of the 24 hours to get in direct touch with us.

This makes me sick this time of year.

Hi, why not go to an internet cafe, do the email from there? You must be in the USA. It seems James is able to do this very easily anywhere in the US, it is just as easy in the UK. Happy christmas and new year to everyone

Nikolas Harris

Lol, I’d bet, I’ve entered a few of these, and with the recent power outage, i was freaking! :P I didn’t want to miss a single email haha. Congrats again!

Thanks Nikolas.I still can’t believe it & tried refreshing the page quite a few times to see that i’m seeing it right. :)

You can’t imagine how bad my ISP is Dave. But i don’t have other options because no other ISP here provides unlimited mobile internet access & i need to stay outside of my city quite frquently. At home i use to get a pathetic 256kbps( and they call it Broadband !!! ) connection. And if you are out of their coverage area, you either don’t get net at all or you can only get to surf the net but can’t download or upload anything.Even if you can Email, you will have to pay huge for just accessing the service. :(

Changing the network coverage from “GSM” to “GPRS” will only allow you to even log-in to an Email account. My prepaid balance just got half than what it was before, after i sent the email to James. So, it better be working & i hope the information James got should be readable as i don’t have an option to see the sent mail which we have while we access it from a computer.

Thank you G.Smith for the wishing.

@ James :- I’m sorry if you are feeling inconvenient.I just asked him & he said that he only sent a single mail to you.I don’t have any idea how you got two mails from him.Anyways, i’ve tried sending another mail to you.I hope that mail reaches you safely as i was having troubles accessing it.Thanks for the suggestion of signing-up a new Gmail account to send you the mail.I tried to do exactly that. How stupid of me.I should’ve done that earlier. My bad. Thanks & Merry X-Mas to you & to all the people here on JKOntherun. :)

Tried sending an Email to you James.Let me know if you received that.Thaks.

James Kendrick

cr0ft, I have received two emails from different email addresses with information in it. I must admit I am feeling a bit strange about how this is going down. Since you have your PDA capable of surfing the web why don’t you sign up for a GMail account and email me directly? For a prize this big we want to be very sure about things.

One thing i forgot, please let me know if you’ve received the mail yet or not.Waiting for your answer.

Ok, i’ve called my brother to send you an email. You should be getting that by now.Thanks.

James i don’t have access to my emails riht now because i’m out of my city where i’m using my PDA to surf the net but my ISP doesn’t support access to emails while roaming.

So, is it possible that i call one of my friends to send you an email on behalf of me ?

Also, i have participated here because i wanted to help a children’s home & one of my friends who’s suffering from cancer. So, is it possible for you to not mention my name(cr0ft) in the winner announcement post you’ve posted earlier ? I don’t want to take credit for supporting the cause.

You may change my username as Xman or anything you would like to.Actually i didn’t think, that i’ll win.So, i mentioned my real username here but now i think, it would be better for not disclosing my identity as i am supporting a cause. Thanks & waiting for your answer.

Wow.i have never believed that i can win something this big.But James, i’m having a problem.I don’t have access to my primary email. How can i confirm the notification ? Thankyou very much for letting me win. :) Good luck to all entrants, Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) and hope you all have a great new year!
