Portable Fueltank Charges Two Mobile Devices at Once

fueltankCallpod has a handy little device charger that I could use right about now. Yup, my “iPhone off the grid” experiment is facing quite the challenge since we’re about to lose the sun for 72-hours. Some extra portable energy would be useful and the Callpod Fueltank looks like an interesting solution. It’s a portable battery that can store 4300 mAh of juice from an AC outlet. The company says that’s about seven times the capacity of standard mobile phone battery.

I’ll give ‘em the benefit of the doubt on a feature phone, but batteries in many smartphones are typically in the 900 mAh to 1400 mAh range. Even so, that’s three full charges or so at the top end of the range and the device isn’t even that bulky. It measures in at 3.4″ x 4.9″ x 0.722″ and weighs a tolerable 7.3 ounces: in other words, it’s something that most folks wouldn’t mind throwing in a gadget bag.

Even more unique is the ability to charge two devices at one time. The Fueltank has two charging ports, so you can just plug in two adapter tips and charge a phone and a digital audio player for example. MSRP for the Fueltank is a reasonable $69.95, but each charging adapter will cost you $9.95. Callpod offers tips and adapters for all of the major phone and headset brands.

Before I forget: if you called my iPhone and went right to voicemail this week, I’ll tell you why tomorrow. ;)
