Kosmix Gets $20M

I want to take a moment to congratulate Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman, both of whom are angel investors in the parent company of this blog (see disclosure below), for raising $20 million for their Mountain View, Calif.-based startup, Kosmix. The new funding for the company, which has built a topic-based search service, comes from Time Warner, former Motorola CEO Ed Zander and previous investors, The Guardian of UKreports. To see how the service works, check out the topic page about me, which is far better than my own extended bio. Anand has details on his blog.

Full disclosure: Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman are angel investors in Giga Omni Media, parent company of GigaOM.

You wrote, “except it doesn’t involve any humans. auto magically creates the page.” Which is exactly the problem. When you search on someone less famous than thou, the videos and pictures can be absolute rubbish and unrelated to the person being searched. This is me:

Now look at the odd selection that Kosmix “magically” culled.

Kudos to Kosmix for landing $20M in funding and for trying to change the face of search

But you should check out NeXplore (www.NeXplore.com), another search engine working to change the face of search.

With approx 4M unique visitors/month, NeXplore is faring far better than Kosmix, Cuil, Mahalo, Searchme, CoolIris, etc.

Don’t take my word for it. Check out NeXplore vs others on Compete.com

except it doesn’t involve any humans. auto magically creates the page. Hey there is a Bollywood guy who looks like you :-)
