With traditional websites generating 20 click throughs per 10,000 page views, and social networks generating only 3 to 10 per 10,000 page views he should focus on his business and not a type of media or service. I use ad blocker and no scripts for my Fire Fox browser. I go on Myspace more than once a day. I see ZERO ads.
