T-Mobile USA reported third quarter revenue rose 12.5 percent on a dollar basis to $5.5 billion, up from $4.89 billion a year earlier. Net income came in at $442 million, down from $452 million a year ago. Data services revenue surged 28 percent year over year to $850 million in the third quarter. Messaging was the most significant driver of data APRU as more customers moved toward tariffs that include messaging. Excluding messaging, data revenue, was up 19.9 percent to $391 million. As of the end of September, T-Mobile USA has 32.14 million customers, including the 4.4 million that came from its acquisition of SunCom. Contract churn was up sharply in Q3, rising to 2.4 percent from 1.9 percent in Q2
