One of the more expensive netbooks gets a price break this month according to Small Laptops. The MSI Wind saw a price hike in the summer now sees a $50 rebate on select models in October. You can find the standard U100 configuration of 1.6 GHz Atom, 120GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM and 3-cell battery available for a net cost (read: after rebate) of $429 at several online retailers. That makes the unit more price competitive with the Lenovo S10 and others. Sadly, there’s no news of 6-cell availability and I think MSI is shooting themselves in the foot on that front.I’m really enjoying the Wind I purchased and find it quite a versatile little laptop whether it’s running Windows XP, Mac OS X or Vista Ultimate. Bear in mind that the 6-cell unit I have gets around five hours of use while the 3-cell models are in the 2- to 2.5-hour range. The 3-cell battery isn’t exactly half the capacity of its pleasantly plump cousin: it offers 2200 mAh of juice while the higher capacity unit offers 5200 mAh.
