Mobile phone news roundup

It’s Friday and a lot of interesting mobile phone news has been flying around and it seemed a good idea to round it all up for you.

WiMAX and HTC

Word has appeared of a WiMA-enabled Touch Pro-like phone from HTC that will be released in Russia.  The HTC T8290 is purported to have a full bevy of radios inside and to be released on Russia’s Yota.  The photos of this phone look convincing enough and that 3.8-inch 800×480 screen looks pretty dandy.  (via engadget)

Blackberry

StormfrandsAll sorts of news flying around today about RIM and their goings-on.  In the not-so-good for RIM department comes word that Orange has suspended sales of the Blackberry Bold due to quality issues.  Orange says it is waiting on fixes from RIM which should happen within two to three weeks.  Ouch.  The next bit of news may not be much better as the rumor that Microsoft is looking at buying RIM is alive again.  While RIM is probably a solid investment for Microsoft I can’t see them getting in the handset business like that.  Last up is in the rumor department: the Storm is not shipping yet but Boy Genius Report is sharing info that RIM is already hard at work on the next model that will be appearing.  BGR is calling it the Blackberry super-phone and the rumored specs sure make it worthy of that name.  This phone is reported to have a  5 MP auto-focus camera, 1 GB of internal storage and "near HD-like" screen.  Sounds pretty spiffy to me.  BGR is also reporting that RIM is already working on a Storm 2 and Storm 3 but that’s only normal.  RIM is always advancing in the handset department.
