One of the first things I noticed when I received the evaluation S10 netbook from Lenovo was how the specs of the review unit were not available for the consumer to purchase. This always creates a bad situation for us as reviewers as it casts a pall over our reviews because it looks like reviewers are being sent beefier units than the public can purchase.
I have been in conversations with Lenovo about this and have some good news. The unit I am reviewing has the 1.6 GHz Atom, 1 GB of memory, a big 160 GB hard drive and Bluetooth. Right now you cannot buy a model of the S10 configured with these healthy specs but that is going to change soon. Lenovo has assured me that a model configured like my review unit will be available for sale "any time now". They have been ramping up enough production to offer this model for sale. The price on this configuration will be $469 which is not too bad compared to the competition. The only down side is it will still come with a 3-cell battery (like my review unit) but they will be producing a 6-cell battery "soon". I haven’t received pricing on the 6-cell battery but will pass it on when I have it.
UPDATE: I just received an official spec sheet from Lenovo and it is showing that no S10 model will have Bluetooth. I’m trying to verify that, again my review unit does in fact have Bluetooth on board.
