San Diego-based Transaction Wireless, which is a mobile infrastructure, commerce and marketing company, said it raised $2.25 million in a first round of funding. Investors participating in the round include: Mission Ventures and Okapi Ventures. The funding will be used for sales and marketing, technology development and customer deployments. Instead of pushing the idea of a “mobile wallet,” Transaction Wireless is focused on gift cards. On its site, it says imagine customers purchasing one online and sending directly to someone’s cell phone as a gift. As a result, customers don’t have to keep track of plastic gift cards. Release.
