Acquia Readies Commercial Drupal CMS

Acquia ,which has been putting together a commercially supported version of the popular open source Drupal content management system, is going live with Acquia Drupal–the commercially supported version–and Acquia Network–which offers subscription-based access to technical support and remote network services–will deliver a model for users of Drupal similar to the model Red Hat has pursued in the Linux arena. Acquia is headed up by Dries Buytaert, the founder and still a lead developer of Drupal. OStatic has some thoughts from Dries and more details.

  1. this is awesome news – and they are putting all of the code for the modules back into the drupal community…oh, and they’ve also released an outstanding theme to go with the free install…

just so that there’s NO confusion: while the company is commercial with commercial offerings, their version of drupal (aka ‘carbon’) is free, and includes many common modules (like cck, views, etc) AND they offer a free basic level of service (integration with their services for system updates, sw updates, spam control and so on)

a killer offering…planning to roll my d6 install over shortly, just need to read the fine print on possible module breaks if any exist…
