San Mateo, Calif.-based Skydeck plans to announce today that it has raised $3 million in a first round of capital to continue building out its services that help you keep track of who you call and text by combing your wireless bill. The round was led by Saban Ventures, the venture arm of Saban Capital. Angel investors, who previously invested $1 million, also participated. Saban’s Craig Cooper, who previously founded Boost Mobile and worked at Softbank Capital, will join the board.
Skydeck Co-founder and CEO Jason Devitt told us about the round last week, just days after the news leaked out that his previous mobile content company, Vindigo, had shut down. Devitt said there’s a whole host of companies, he’s calling mobile 1.0, which are focused on building applications and selling them through a carrier’s deck, that won’t make the transition to smartphones.
In his new venture, Devitt said the new funding will go towards general operating expenses and building out new features. Currently, the company is in public beta and is a service, where people can track how many minutes and text messages they’ve used and who are the top people that call them, and the top people they call. In June, they also launched a feature where you can connect your network with others (with consent), so you can see what relationships are important to others. The site’s APIs are also open, so that others can also build apps based on the site. Devitt: “We have plenty more to come and you have yet to see us do anything on the phone. This funding will accelerate both of those.”
