Skyfire browser now available to all in the US

Skyfire_logoGood news for those who have been wanting to try the Skyfire browser on your phone but couldn’t get in the private beta.  Skyfire is opening up the beta to anyone with the release of version 0.8.  Skyfire is currently only available for Windows Mobile but when I interviewed Nitin Bhandari, the CEO of Skyfire at the Mobilize conference (which will hopefully be available soon) he assured me that the S60 version of 0.8 is not far behind.  He also indicated that Skyfire is working on porting the browser to other platforms, I believe the Android word was even mentioned as a possibility.

Skyfire is server-based as web pages are rendered on the Skyfire servers to take the load off the slow processors of the PDA/ phone.  This means that the browser is one of the fastest ones you can use on a Windows Mobile phone and every time I have played with it I’ve come away impressed.  This new version adds several new features including a smart address bar that will let you search the web and the ability to share web page links via SMS.  Bhandari could not give me an idea when Skyfire might be leaving beta and go gold so you’d better go get the beta.
