Broadband Content Bits: Wang’s YouTube Premiere; VBS Surf Series


Wayne Wang film to premiere on YouTube in October: The Princess of Nebraska Wayne Wang’s new film from Magnolia Pictures will have its world premiere on Oct. 17 on YouTube’s premium film content channel, Screening Room, THR reports. Though the studio will release Wang’s other film, A Thousand Years of Good Prayers theatrically on Sept. 19, it opted to release the companion film Nebraska as part of a large distribution plan, perhaps in keeping with Nebraska‘s theme, as its story centers on a young Chinese woman finding her identity through forms of new media. Both films are adapted from Yiyun Li’s short stories.

Surf series debuting on School of Surf: Red Bull Riders Cup, a 15-webisode documentary taking a look at American high school surf culture, has launched on, the online TV channel from Vice Magazine. VBS EVP Eddy Moretti dubs the series “Friday Night Lights on the beach” as it chronicles Southern California surfers and New Jersey shore ones as they struggle to take on the nationwide surfing tournament that is the Red Bull Riders Cup.
