I’m miffed that the Blitz just hit Verizon Wireless today. My son Tyler lost his feature phone about a week ago and the replacement arrived late last week. In fact, we’ll be activating it tomorrow when he comes over. I think if he had seen the new Blitz, he would have wanted it due to the slide-up face that reveals a full QWERTY keyboard. Yes, I think he’s ready to graduate from T9 to QWERTY at this point. ;)
There’s nothing else really stunning about the Blitz as it’s not a true smartphone; it does offer basic PIM functionality, Bluetooth with A2DP support for wireless stereo music, 1.3-megapixel camera, and microSD support up to 4 GB. This li’l guy is small too: just 3.5" x 2.6" x 0.7" when the face is closed. The CDMA carrier is offering the Blitz for $69.99 (after $50 rebate) with a two-year contract. Of course you can add a Rhapsody subscription for $14.99 a month to take advantage of the stereo Bluetooth too. Hmm… maybe it’s good we bought the cheap replacement phone before this came out after all… there’s not much he can add to the bare-bones handset we bought him! Folks looking to keep track of their child… or more appropriately, their child’s phone… the Blitz does support Verizon’s Chaperone Child service as well as VZ Navigator.
