YouLicense Gets $1 Million For DIY Song Licensing

YouLicense, an Israeli online music licensing platform, has raised an initial round of funding from Ofer Media. Terms were not disclosed in the announcement, though TC reports that it got $1 million. The basic idea: users put their music on the platform, where potential licensors can find it and negotiate price and terms. It’s similar to the amateur stock photography sites out there in that it tries to create a content marketplace for more amateur works, without a human middleman. The company is targeting producers of TV, film and games. While most of the artists on such a service will naturally be lesser known, here’s a page to license four tracks from the Stone Roses. Release.
