China Mobile has won approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to start the second phase of construction of its TD-SCDMA network in 28 cities after the Beijing Olympics.
Most of the cities are provincial capitals except for 10 cities where the first stage construction took place — total investment in the network will reach RMB 30 billion (US$4.38 billion) reports China Knowledge. Apparently there are 40,000 TD-SCMDA and CMMB handsets in the market.
