Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has updated its popular Google Maps for mobile application with transit directions for Symbian S60 3rd edition and Windows Mobile devices, Google announced on its blog. The search giant released the update for BlackBerry and Java-based handsets earlier this month. A second tab labeled transit now shows up after searching for directions on the version 2.2 of the application that allows users to request a route using only public transit. Google Maps pulls transit information from more than 50 cities and plans to continue adding more. The new version also includes star ratings for businesses and user-generated content that will show up in search results.
