One of the improvements in the latest version of Firefox is that the browser cleans out it’s cache more frequently. That alone should free up memory as you let tab after tab sitting around. But what if you want to eek out every little sliver of RAM that’s tied up unnecessarily? Well, you could wait several minutes and let Firefox figure out that it’s time to flush the bits, or you can try the RAMBack extension that… wait for it… gets your RAM back!
You likely won’t see gobs of memory returned with it; my experimentation is between 20- and 50-MB of memory freed by using RAMBack so maybe it’s more of psychological high I’m experiencing than a computing one. However, it’s simple to use since it just sits in your menu bar under Tools, Clear Caches, so it’s just a short two taps away. Considering the limited amount of RAM on many mobile devices, I think every little bit helps so for the moment, I’m keeping this 8 KB extension in my browser.
