Ithaca, NY-based Instinctiv said today that it is coming out of stealth mode to announce its financing and its first product the Instinctiv Shuffle, which can be downloaded to the iPhone and helps consumers sort through their music libraries to find the music they want. The application randomly plays music until it figures out what people feel like listening based on what they are skipping, and learns what to play next. The company also said it raised $750,000 from Cayuga Venture Fund, Rosetech Ventures and a group of strategic angels. Instinctiv was started last August by Justin Smithline and Peter Brodsky, who met while earning graduate degrees at Cornell University. Although this sounds like a nice feature to have on the iPhone, it makes you wonder if the iPhone is like the term “dotcom” in the late 90s — VC’s will fund anything that uses it.
