WooMe Raises Funding

We have been tracking a round of funding for WooMe, the online video speed-dating service, and latest word is that the deal is done. The company raised a $12 million round led by Index Ventures, according to our sources. The company raised fresh money at a pre-money valuation of around $18 million, which makes it worth around $30 million. And apparently WooMee is working on a deal to turn its video chats into TV content for MTV.

WooMe had previously raised about $5 million. The company launched at our NewTeeVee Live conference last November. Previous investors in the company include Mangrove Capital, along with previous investors Atomico (founded by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis), Klaus Hammels and newcomer Oliver Jung. I am about to jump on an airplane, but will try to add to the story this afternoon.

I guess the proof is in the pudding, this deal is a big fat sticky toffee pudding to the business of dating.
