EMI Music has agreed to allow the BBC to release its artists’ TV and radio performances that are currently in the broadcaster’s archives. The deal that will let both entities collaborate on creating and marketing online programming, as well as CD and DVD packages, around artists in the label’s library. BBC Worldwide also acquired the rights to distribute the EMI-owned works via upcoming digital streaming services such as Project Kangaroo, its proposed on-demand joint venture with ITV (LSE: ITV) and Channel 4. The label and the broadcaster are deciding what artists to create release for. EMI’s roster includes Kylie Minogue, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Lily Allen and Pink Floyd. Both companies will also share royalties for each other’s sales.
EMI and the BBC already had a more limited content deal in place, involving BBC performances of EMI artists such as Coldplay, Queen, Roxy Music and Depeche Mode.
