ThomsonReuters’ has lost its head of media for Asia: Azhar Rafee, who is based in Hong Kong, is leaving the company after being there for about 10 years, we have learned. He will leave by end of June, and is planning to get into an entrepreneurial venture down the line, though he is taking a break for now. The news was confirmed to us by Rafee. He had been at Reuters for about 10 years now, and prior to this Asian assignment, he was the global head of Reuters.com, based in New York City.
As for his replacement, his position will be split into two parts: Alisa Bowen, based in London, will take over the strategic aspects of his position, while current media sales head Joachim Schmaltz will take over the consumer aspects of his job.
Rafee recently spoke at the NDTV Convergence conference in India, and we did an interview with him on Reuters’ India operations there. Besides India, Reuters is focused on Japan and China as the other major consumer media markets.
