– Skweezer has launched a new ad service. Skweezer Ads is an online advertising service that puts both desktop and mobile ads in a single ad feed, with a cut-and-paste code that detects the device used to view the ad (to view the page, really) and displaying the correct type of ad to each visito. And of course customers can use the Skweezer service to automatically create a mobile version of their website, which is Skweezer’s main business. Skweezer has a patent-pending algorithm that dynamically converts conventional text-based cost-per-click (CPC) ads into mobile-friendly ads compliant with MMA standards.
— Universal Music Group will launch some direct-to-consumer mobile products through its artists web and WAP sites, as well as CD packaging and its GetMusic.com portal. The content will include ringtones, video ringtones, wallpapers and artist updates, and will be made available via Qualcomm’s (NSDQ: QCOM) BrandXtend service. (release)

— A survey on smartphones by JD Power has shown that the percent of handsets in the US that are classified as smartphones has grown from 1.7 percent in 2007 to 6.3 percent now, reports RCR News. The survey also found differences in satisfaction with the phones: “Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) Mobile Communications ranked highest in overall wireless customer satisfaction for a second consecutive time. LG Electronics (SEO: 066570) Co. Ltd. also ranked above the industry average, while Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. came in just below the industry average. Samsung was followed by Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd., Kyocera Wireless Corp. and, finally, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Corp.”
— The CTIA has released a report (done by Ovum) claiming that the total value of wireless broadband and mobile voice services will exceed $427 billion by the year 2016, and will provide additional benefits to the Gross Domestic Product of $860 billion over the next ten years…that seems to be mostly “productivity value”. — Verizon has launched a Flash Lite-based mobile gaming portal on its Get It Now service. Mobigamz has Flash games in the sport, arcade, puzzle and board categories, developed by Mobitween. (release)
