Eros And Lionsgate In A 50:50 Joint Venture For Film Production & Distribution

Eros International and Lionsgate have set up a joint venture for the distribution and production of movies in India and North America. It’s a 50:50 deal, and is likely to involve movies in the $10 million to $20 million range. The JV will be headquartered in Mumbai. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has said that they will also produce English and Hindi language movies together – both originals and remakes. Lionsgate will acquire North America home video rights to 20 Eros titles, including “Eklavya: The Royal Guard” and “Gandhi My Father.” Kishore Lulla, CEO of Eros International believes that the Lionsgate deal will not impact Eros’ existing theatrical and homevideo distribution operations in North America, saying “This is all about the bottom line. We really want to get our titles out better in the U.S.”, adding that “We will also set up subscription VOD platforms, we will syndicate, we will dub.” The pair is also in discussions with other content owners for distributing titles. They’re also considering Hindi remakes of films like “Dirty Dancing,” “Employee of the Month” and “My Best Friend’s Girl”. [via release]
