It was an exciting week at the Earth2Tech offices with big news coming in most everyday. There were some big reports about the potential of wind, some big funding for solar thermal, and discussion of electric cars coming in force to the Bay Area. Project Better Place Might Charge Up SF: On a trip to Israel, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom met with executives of Shai Agassi’s electrical car infrastructure startup Project Better Place and offered to work with the company if they would consider doing a pilot project in his fair city.

Austin Cleantech Guru to Be Kleiner EIR: Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has recruited a new entrepreneur-in-residence to work in its Department of Energy program. Kleiner’s representative for the program will be Joel Serface, the current director of the Austin Clean Energy Incubator.

Google, BP, Investors Fund BrightSource for $115M: The solar thermal startup that scored one of the industry’s biggest solar power plant deals in April, has just raised a massive $115 million and added some big new names to its list of investors including Google.org and BP Alternative Energy.

T. Boone Pickens Orders $2B of Wind Turbines: Our favorite Texas-oil-baron-turned-wind-wildcatter, has placed an order for 667 wind turbines from GE for a total cost of $2 billion. This is just the start of his plan to build the world’s largest wind farm which he says will have a capacity of 4 gigawatts.
