One thing not in question is how many devices come in and out of Mobile Tech Manor. It’s like there’s a revolving door and gadgets come in and go out in a continual stream. One of the side effects of this endless parade of technology is how my family members often get to play with stuff they normally would never get to play with. Such is the case with the Lenovo ThinkPad x61 Tablet PC. You’ve noticed I haven’t mentioned it in a while even though it’s a sweet convertible Tablet PC. That’s because a while back my bride wanted to try it out and you guessed it, liked it so much she wouldn’t give it back. She’s been using it and loving it for a good while and it’s served her needs very well.
Recently I’ve mentioned that she’s been eying my HP 2710p Tablet and making noises to indicate she wanted to try it. Every time she’s used it temporarily she has really been impressed with its thin and lightness and I kept hearing that she’d love to "try" it. I made the ultimate mistake at some point by saying she could indeed use if for a while. Oops. So every few days she’s been asking me when she gets to "have" it. Now this created a problem for me because I still use it in my work a lot. That means I make money with it so giving it up was going to be painful indeed. In the back of my mind I’ve been scheming thinking to find a way out of this dilemma and last night I had a brilliant idea.
I thought about how my wife uses a computer and realized that she rarely, if ever, uses it as a Tablet PC. Sure she likes that she can swivel the screen around and use the pen but she has always expressed disappointment that she can’t manipulate the interface with her fingertips instead of the pen. Enter the HP tx2051 Entertainment Notebook. I’ve stated that I believe the tx2051 is for the consumer who is looking for a really good multimedia notebook yet wants occasional Tablet usage. This fits her working style to a T so last night I built it up to let her use it for a while. The Belkin Easy Transfer cable made that a simple process and this morning she is happily computing away on the tx2051. "It’s so fast!" is something I’ve been hearing a lot and I think she will enjoy using such a kick-a$$ notebook. I’ll report back in a while how well this experiment goes.
Of course this means that this morning the Lenovo x61 is back in Mobile Tech Manor and I am playing with it for the first time in a while. It’s really a nice Tablet PC as you know and the 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo processor makes it a very snappy performer for a tablet. This is getting fun. :)
