Cars.com Buys PickupTrucks.com

Cars.com is more than just cars: The division of Classified Ventures has announced the acquisition of PickupTrucks.com, a review and community site for pickup trucks. (CV is owned by Belo (NYSE: BLC), Gannett (NYSE: GCI), Washington Post (NYSE: WPO), McClatchy (NYSE: MNI) and Tribune.) It’s very straightforward: the acquisition gives Cars.com a stronger presence in the trucks market, thus offering truck advertisers a more focused advertising opportunity. The site was started in 1995 by editor Mike Levine, who will stay on. Autoblog points out an interesting tidbit on the acquisition: the site had been called PickupTruck.com (singular) before being bought — presumably the pluralization was made to keep names consistent within the family. Deal terms were not announced. Release.
