Geodesic Information Systems, the BSE listed company which owns the Mundu suite of products (Radio and IM client) and had acquired Chandamama, has reported a net profit of Rs. 49.5 crores for the fourth quarter (Q408). The company ended the fiscal year 2007-08 with a net profit of Rs. 154.99 crores, up Rs. 89.82 crores from the previous fiscal.
During the year, Geodesic launched Idea Radio, powered by its Mundu Radio service, with Idea Cellular. The company also signed a $4 Billion german electronics co for incorporating Mundu Messenger on mobile phones. Mundu Messenger gets anything between 1800-5000 downloads a day, Kiran Kulkarni, Co-Founder and MD of Geodesic has told CNBC-TV18. They plan to launch more experimental products, and will focus on the Mundu portfolio of products.
Geodesic has also incorporated Geodesic Holdings Limited, a Maurutius based wholly owned subsidiary for investment. The company also raised $125 million in the form of Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds, in order to fund acquisitions. On the content front, Chandamama circulation has increased by 60 percent in the last quarter, though the company is yet to discuss their Chandamama strategy in detail.
