If you’re and OS X user who is tired of trying to manage a full-blown GTD application but who finds the event and task management capabilities of iCal to be somewhat clunky, there’s a new alternative. Second Gear’s Today application offers a simpler interface to OS X’s storage of events and tasks that doesn’t take up much space. You can perform the essential activities right from the UI: look at everything that’s due today, create new tasks and events, and flip through days one by one.
Today isn’t a complete replacement for iCal; you’ll still want to fire up the full application to get a view of a month-at-a-glance, for example. But for an unobtrusive reminder of what’s at the top of your stack, it works well. Today is $15 to register, and you can try it out for free for 7 days.
