IPLT20.com Launched, Team Web Property Launches Disappoint

IPLT20.com, the official website of the Indian Premier League, has launched. It seems to have been a rush job, a massive flash player streaming the on-air promo greets you along with a score board on the right half of the page. Content seems fairly slim and sections like Blogs, Audio and Video are not fully fleshed out. There is a video icon next to live coverage suggesting Live Current may possibly be planning a subscription based real time streaming service. The mobile section promises Alerts, On Demand/Game day Updates along with Wallpaper and Ringtones, but all are currently inactive. The only promotions I have seen so far were the stadium installations during the KKR vs RC match. Fairly early days to be judgmental, I reckon the design is currently for text scoreboard updates to get traffic in. Noticed Bcci.tv, the other web property Live Current has acquired rights for, currently redirects to Ticketpro.in.

The media threatens seemed to have been just that, with every major daily covering the event on Saturday morning. The team websites, barring a few, have been lackluster so farRajasthan Royals has launched with a fairly basic template with a gaming zone featuring licensed cricket themed games. The mobile vertical has still not launched. Royal Challengers continues its despicable form on web as well, yesterday was RC’s match day and guess what? Page not found. Mumbai Indians has a fan club that leads to a forum which is full of jilted users venting their disappointment. Delhi Daredevils have reverted to a simple landing page, shifting content to a blog. Kolkata Knight Riders has launched out of demo mode, amusing characterizations around the official mascot Hoog Lee!, there is a cartoon strip called Eye PL TV with spoofs and real news separated under Off-side and On-side respectively, also noticed a branded game tie-up with Zapak called Bully Cricket (by far the worst cricket game ever). Tons of dummy data floating around though, the site is far from ready. However, they have attempted to take the concept beyond the scope of the team and cricket news (powered by Cricketnext), the fiction section has a comic strip titled 12th Man along with animation movies like this one on Shoaib Akthar Deccan Chargers and Kings XI are one of the most appealing by the mere measure of functionality and an uncluttered interface. Kyazoonga has tied up with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils for ticketing while Tickerpro.in is the online partner with Kings XI, Deccan Chargers has integrated with a payment gateway while the others only offer offline booking details. Hopefully, the official IPL website can set some design standards and guidelines for the satellite properties to follow and tie the currently disparate and meager community and merchandising elements.
