The market for mobile TV in India will hit $360 million in revenue and 12 million customers according to Springboard Research — which would be impressive considering that there is currently only a limited offering from public service broadcaster Doordarshan (not counting a 2G effort by MTNL). That 12 million figure represents a penetration rate of 5-6 percent, and Springboard recommends that the service should be offered on an “on-demand” pay-per-view option that does not bind users to monthly subscriptions — although that sounds more like a mobile video service than a mobile TV service. The big point in the Money Morning article is that — if this prediction actually comes true — the Indian mobile TV market will be bigger than the US mobile TV market.
