– Broadband soars: The GSM Association reports mobile broadband increased tenfold in the last year, rising to 32 million connections from just three million. The number of operators offering high-speed internet access has also risen, shooting up 44 percent in the last 10 months. The surge in mobile broadband usage has been driven by the uptake of more powerful, internet-enabled phones, as well as upgraded networks that offer speedier connections. Currently, broadband on mobile phones is available in 73 countries from 166 operators, up from just 96 networks in three countries (release).
— O2: O2 UK is building more features on to its Bluebook SMS backup service. The platform, built by Irish mobile social app white label vendor NewBay Software, is bolting on blogging, video support, personalisation via skins and automatic SMS backup. Text backup had previously taken place only when users forwarded messages to 40202. Peers in that space include Dashwire.
